The Daily Meal's Readers Are Stressed by Dinner, and Like Using Frozen Foods

Most of our readers chose dinner as the most stressful meal of the day.

What's the most stressful meal of the day for you, the readers of The Daily Meal? Dinner, according to our recently conducted Family Study of The Daily Meal audience.

We got nearly 15,000 responses about your mealtime habits, grocery shopping preferences, and methods of simplifying your household duties — and some 45 percent of you named dinner as the meal that induced the most stress. The remaining 33 percent of our respondents told us that no one meal was any more stressful than another.

Perhaps as a way to help ease mealtime stress, a third of our readers chose frozen foods as the tool that helped their households run more smoothly, while the remainder of responses were divided among online meal planning and shopping lists, and meal and grocery delivery services.

According to our Family Study, 53 percent of our readers are from one- or two-person households, while approximately 27 percent of you have households of three or four people. The remaining 20 percent of readers come from households of five people or more.

Mealtimes aside, although more than a third of readers (38 percent) said that no particular part of the day was more stressful than another, 27 percent of you chose morning as the most stressful time for your household. For another 25 percent, evening was called the most stressful time (something to do with dinner?), while the rest chose afternoon or nighttime.

I Love This Diet is very simple to understand.

  1. You will be given a daily calorie allowance based on your current weight.
As you start to lose weight your calorie intake is adjusted accordingly.
  2. Each day you will consume a healthy light breakfast, one frozen meal for lunch and one frozen meal for dinner.
Even though most frozen meals do contain vegetables you will also add an extra four servings of vegetables to your daily meals, with at least three of these being non-starchy vegetables.
  3. You have the option of preparing meals from scratch if you prefer.
The book includes a variety of recipes under 300 calories for those times when you don’t feel like eating a frozen meal.
  4. In addition you will consume three servings of fruit a day and two cups of non-fat milk (or allowable substitutes such as nonfat yogurt, fat-free cheese or fortified soy milk).
  5. Dieters are also permitted to choose one treat daily from a list of options including items like cookies, cakes, ice cream, and popcorn, but this must be less than 100 calories.

Alcohol is discouraged because it is high in calories and tends to increase the likelihood of making unhealthy food choices, however if you desire you can substitute one glass of wine or light beer in place of a treat, up to two times a week.

While following this diet it is recommended that you take a daily multivitamin and 1200mg of fish oil, to make sure all of your nutritional needs are being met.

15 Healthy Frozen Food Finds to Stock up on ASAP

Quick, clear out the freezer and add these tasty frozen foods!

Spending more time at home recently? Non-perishable and frozen foods can be extremely practical and convenient options to have stocked in your kitchen. But, not all frozen meals are created equal! Often packed with excessive amounts of sodium and additives, frozen meals tend to get a bad rap. But more and more food companies are listening to consumers and bringing healthy frozen food options to the table! And believe it or not, frozen foods in general are often flash frozen directly after harvest or preparation, and this helps to lock in nutrients that fresh foods may gradually lose when in transit to the grocery store. The freezer aisle has been getting a much-needed revamp over the past few years, so there are more healthy frozen meals than ever before to keep you covered morning, noon, and night. Here are a few key tips from the GH Nutrition Lab to help you decipher between the good, the bad, and the ugly in the frozen food section:

Read the label:Ideally, you should be able to recognize and/or pronounce the entire ingredient list. Most importantly, though, the first listed ingredients should be whole foods (think: 100% whole-grains, sweet potatoes, broccoli, eggs, beans).

Check the sodium: Many frozen entrées contain 600+ mg of sodium (and often much more than that!), which is more than 20% of your recommended daily allotment. Aim for a meal that clocks in at 500 mg or less for dinner. Bonus points if the meal also has at least 4 grams of protein and fiber.

Pick your protein wisely: Prioritize leaner cuts of meat and poultry, seafood, and plant-based protein like beans or tofu.

Transparency is one of our main priorities when writing our rankings, which is why we have added this section. The first step in creating this ranking was to search through dozens of keto delivery services, and then we compared and contrasted these services. We took many factors into consideration, including, but not limited to, the ones listed below. When we asked ourselves these questions, some of the elements were weighted more heavily than others.

2. Organic Bistro – Sesame ginger wild salmon

Organic Bistro is another frozen meal producer, who focuses on organic foods. One of their more popular dishes is the sesame ginger wild salmon. (2) This dish is served with quinoa and brown rice, alongside other vegetables, such as broccoli and carrots.

This dish clocks in at just 300 calories, with 6g of fat. This dish will also give you 20 grams of healthy protein, which will benefit you greatly when it comes to weight loss, as shown by research from Gym equipment. It will also contribute to your daily intake of omega-3 fatty acids, which are great for your immune system. This is another dish that is perfect for lunchtimes, or alongside some vegetables as an evening meal.

How It’s Delivered

For frozen food specifically, you’ll want to pay close attention to how the food is packaged and delivered in order to keep it cold and fresh before it gets to you.

Vacuum sealing is a great way to keep air and moisture out and retain shape and texture of food even through transit. Some delivery options may include ice packs or gel packs, but the coldest ones will include dry ice.

Depending on how long the delivery will take to get to you, what kind of transit service is being used, and what food you’re expecting in your package, you’ll know what will work best for you.

Research what meals are provided. Pay close attention to the kinds of meals offered by each service.

With that in mind, here are our prepared meal delivery reviews for the best options out there right now.

Are Frozen Diet Foods like Lean Cuisine Really Healthy?

can you answer me are frozen diet foods like Lean Cuisine really healthy? I know nothing can compare with food that I cook and prepare, but sometimes I really don't have so much time to do that. I have busy social life, I work a lot, and these frozen meals seems like good idea for me.

Can you tell me more about this? Why this diet is healthy or why is not healthy? Do you have any experience?

These meals were good for me, I have lost my weight eating these meals about three times a week, mostly for dinner and lunch.

Lenny over a year ago

these meals are just OK, nothing more if you ask me. They are good alternative for lunch and dinner when you don't have time to cook. But, remember – frozen meals like lean cuisine never will be that healthy as food that you prepare by your own. If you have one Sunday free, then try to prepare your meals for the next five days. It is not that hard. Do you agree with me?

Put these meals in the freezer, and eat them after you come home after work. Eat frozen meals by Lean Cuisine only, but only if you don't have one minute to prepare your meals.

OK, maybe they are not that healthy, and maybe they are not that smart :) But, I love these meals. The reason that they are not that healthy is because of the level of the sodium in it. But, that is not that harmful. Am I wrong?

I just love their peanut butter cup sundae :) Actually, I am going to eat it right now.

I have been eating these meals for two years now, and I don't have any bad experience with it. I am healthy, and that is more important than everything :)

You should try to eat it, these meals are delicious :)

Placing hot food directly in the freezer

You should always let cooked food come down to room temperature before freezing or even refrigerating it. This helps maintain the quality and texture of your ingredients. Another danger of placing hot food directly in the freezer is that you could be compromising and defrosting your other frozen foods that come into contact with it.

Garlic and Butter

Okay, any home cook will agree that garlic and butter are going to be able to save just about anything, and this holds true with frozen asparagus. If you’re looking to jazz up the skillet even further, throw in some scallions and bacon/pancetta, or top the veggie side with fresh herbs, a chimichurri, or gremolata. Before you plate your spears, hit the serving dish with a smear of Greek yogurt or labneh. How freaking good does that sound?
